Strangest Laws Around the World!

I was going through some craziest laws around the world and I found out a whole bunch of crazy laws, remarkably still in place in some parts of the world. Did you know that it is illegal to flag down a cab in London - if you have the plague? Below are some of the more ridiculous laws still in place around the world.

United Kingdom:

The Times this weekend ran a list of laws that are, remarkably, still in place. Did you know that it is illegal to flag down a cab in London - if you have the plague? Below are some of the more ridiculous local and national UK laws still in place.

1. It is illegal for a cab in the City of London to carry rabid dogs or corpses.

2. It is illegal to die in the Houses of Parliament.
3. It is an act of treason to place a postage stamp bearing the British monarch upside down.
4. Royal Navy ships that enter the Port of London must provide a barrel of rum to the Constable of the Tower of London.
5. In the UK, a pregnant woman can legally relieve herself anywhere she wants – even, if she so requests, in a policeman’s helmet.
6. In Lancashire, no person is permitted after being asked to stop by a constable on the seashore to incite a dog to bark.
7. In England, all men over the age of 14 must carry out two hours of longbow practice a day.
8. In London, Freemen are allowed to take a flock of sheep across London Bridge without being charged a toll; they are also allowed to drive geese down Cheapside.
9. In the UK, a man who feels compelled to urinate in public can do so only if he aims for his rear wheel and keeps his right hand on his vehicle.
10. In Chester, Welshmen are banned from entering the city before sunrise and from staying after sunset.
11. In the city of York, it is legal to murder a Scotsman within the ancient city walls, but only if he is carrying a bow and arrow.
12. In London, it is illegal to flag down a taxi if you have the plague.
13. The head of any dead whale found on the British coast is legally the property of the King; the tail, on the other hand, belongs to the Queen - in case she needs the bones for her corset.

Australia:

1. A life sentence is 25 years.
2. Children may not purchase cigarettes, but they may smoke them.
3. You may never leave your car keys in an unattended vehicle.
4. It is illegal to roam the streets wearing black clothes, felt shoes and black shoe polish on your face as these items are the tools of a cat burgular.
5. It is illegal to walk on the right hand side of a footpath.
6. Under Australian Communications Authority (ACA) regulations, a modem can't pick up on the first ring.
7. Taxi cabs are required to carry a bale of hay in the trunk.
8. Bars are required to stable, water and feed the horses of their patrons.
9. The legal age for straight sex is 16, unless the person is in the care/custody of the older person, in which case it is 18.
10. Only licensed electricians may change a light bulb.
11. It is illegal to wear hot pink pants after midday Sunday.
12. You must have a neck to knee swimsuit in order to swim at Brighton Beach.
13. Until the Port Arthur Killings it was legal to own an AK-47 but not legal to be gay.
14. Lawmakers are proposing a new law that will not allow anyone to come closer than 100 meters from a dead whale's carcass.


Thailand:

1. It is illegal to leave your house if you are not wearing underwear.
2. You must wear a shirt while driving a car.
3. You must pay a fine of $600 in Thailand if you're caught throwing away chewed bubble gum on the sidewalk.
4. No one may step of any of the nation's currency.

Turkey:

All married women must get their husband's permission if they wish to have a job, they must live wherever the husband wishes to reside, and they must forfeit all jointly held assets upon divorce from her husband.

Philippines:
Cars whose license plates end with a 1 or 2 are not allowed on the roads on Monday, 3 or 4 on Tuesday, 5 or 6 on Wednesday, 7 or 8 on Thursday, and 9 or 0 on Friday from 7:00 AM.


Switzerland:

1. Clothes may not be hung to dry on Sunday.
2. You may not wash your car on a Sunday.
3. It is considered an offense to mow your lawn on a Sunday, because it causes too much noise.
4. It is illegal to flush the toilet after 10 P.
5. A man may not relieve himself while standing up, after 10 P.
6. Though it is illegal to produce, store, sell and trade absinth (special alcohol), it is legal to consume it.
7. It is required that every car with snow tires has to have a sticker on its dashboard which tells that the driver should not drive faster than 160 km/h with these tires.
8. If you forget you car-keys inside the car and you leave the car open, you will be punished.


Sweden:

1. A prince or princess who marries without the consent of the government, that person forfeits the right of succession for his/her children and all other descendants.
2. While prostitution is legal, it is illegal to use the services of a prostitute.
3. You may only own half a meter down in the ground of any land you own.
4. It is illegal to repaint a house without a painting license and the government's permission.
5. If you release pigs into a acornwood (or a beechnutwood) mutually owned by you and at least one more, and exceeded your quota of allowed pigs, you will have to pay a fine for each each pig to the other owners and to restore any damages caused by the extra pigs.

South Korea:

Traffic police are required to report all bribes that they receive from motorists.

Singapore:

1. Bungee jumping is illegal.
2. The sale of gum is prohibited.
3. Homosexuals are not allowed to live in the country.
4. Oral sex is illegal unless it is used as a form of foreplay.
5. Pornography is illegal.
6. As it is considered pornographic, you may not walk around your home nude.
7. Failure to flush a public toilet after use may result in very hefty fines.
8. It is considered an offense to enter the country with cigarettes.
9. Cigarettes are illegal at all public places.
10. It is illegal to come within 50 meters of a pedestrian crossing marker on any street.
11. If you are convicted of littering three times, you will have to clean the streets on Sundays with a bib on saying, "I am a litterer.
12. It is illegal to pee in an elevator.

Norway:

1. If your vehicle stalls and you leave it on the side of the road, you must mark the vehicle with a red, reflecting triangle.
2. A fee is levied on each purchaser of any plastic bottle which is returned upon return of the bottle.
3. Beverages containing more than 4.
4. Licenses must be bought in order to own television sets, and even VCRs.
5. You may not spay your female dog or cat.

Cambodia:

Water guns may not be used in New Year's celebrations.

Netherlands:

1. It is legal to smoke pot, buy it, or have less than 5 grams with you.
2. Prostitution is legal but the prostitutes must pay taxes like any other business.

Morocco:

Anyone in company with someone who possesses narcotics, even if they are unaware that their companion has them, can be tried for the same crime.

Mexico:

1. Clergymen may not wear their religious garb in public.
2. Boneshakers, safety bicycles, and any other similar machines are banned from the center of town.
3. Bicycle riders may not lift either foot from the peddles, as it might result in a loss of control.
4. During Holy Week, no horses or wheeled transport is allowed in the city.
5. No fireworks may be thrown by hand during Holy Week.
6. All males must wear trousers, and such groups of employees as hack drivers and newspaper delivery boys must adopt uniforms.
7. Women, who work for the government of the city of Guadalajara, may not wear miniskirts or any other "provacative" garment during office hours.
8. It is illegal to shout offensive words in any public place.
9. Any kind of nude artistic display is illegal.

Italy:

1. It is illegal to practice the profession of charlantry.

Greece:

2. One could not wear a hat in the Olympic Stadium in ancient times as it would obstruct someone's view.

Belgium:

A driver who needs to turn through oncoming traffic has the right of way unless he slows down or stops.

Canada:

1. Comic books which depict any illegal acts are banned.
2. 35% of a radio stations content must be "Canadian Content".
3. You may not pay for a fifty-cent item with only pennies.
4. Citizens may not publicly remove bandages.
5. It is illegal for clear or non-dark sodas to contain caffeine.
6. Businesses must provide rails for tying up horses.

China:

Denmark:

1. Before starting your car you are required to check lights, brakes, steering and honk your horn.

3. If a horse drawn carriage is trying to pass a car and the horse becomes uneasy, the owner of the car is required to pull over and if necessary, cover the car.

Germany:

1. Every office must have a view of the sky, however small.
2. A pillow can be considered a "passive" weapon.
3. It is illegal to wear a mask.
4. It is illegal for ones car to run out of gas on the Autobahn.


Ireland:

Any person who shall pretend or exercise to use any type of witchcraft, sorcery, enchantment, or pretend knowledge in any occult or or craft or science shall for any such offense suffer imprisonment at the time of one whole year and also shall be obliged to obscursion for his/her good behavior.

Israel:

1. Bicycles may not be ridden without a license.
2. Raising a pig on Israeli soil will result in the murder of said pig.
3. If you have been maintaining an illegal radio station for five or more years, the station becomes legal.
4. It is against the law to feed animals in public places.
5. It is considered an offense to operate a mobile spay/neuter clinic - it is considered peddling.
6. It is forbidden to bring bears to the beach.
7. No loud voices or big lights are allowed during weekends.
8. The raising of Rotweiller dogs is prohibited.
9. Picking one's nose on the Sabbath is illegal.

South Africa:

1. A license is required to purchase a television set.
2. In the days of aparthed, all people of colour had to be indoors by 9 PM, at which time a siren was sounded.
3. Young people wearing bathing suits are prohibited from sitting less than 12 inches apart.

Swaziland:

1. Any woman who wears pants faces a possible punishment of having the pants ripped off her and torn to pieces by soldiers.
2. Young girls may not shake hands with men.

Zimbabwe:

Citizens may not make offensive gestures at a passing state motorcade.

Finland:

Taxi drivers must pay royalties if they play music in their cars for paying customers.
